The first quarter of 2013 has been a busy one! Numerous contracts were up for re-negotiation this year and Council began with renewing the Youth League contract. The three year contract stipulates the Park shall receive $15 from each registration fee. This will help pay for diamond upkeep, lights, and other materials. The Humane Shelter contract was signed in February. The contract is a two year term and pays the Humane Shelter $2500 a year. Finally, in March, a three year park use contract was agreed upon by Turtle Days and the Town. A $500 use fee will be paid per year to offset any electricity costs incurred during the 4 day event.
In February, the Town Council heard from the Main Street Committee. Main Street was seeking a renewal of the Façade Grant to help local businesses improve the appearance of their buildings. Last year, four businesses took advantage of the cost-match program and the improvements made have had quite the impact on the appearance of downtown ‘Busco. The Council acknowledged this and the Program was renewed for 2013, not to exceed $30,000.
Rounding out the events of the first quarter, Clerk-Treasurer, Madalyn Bartl, presented the Council with a quote for the completion of the asset book. An asset book is required for every governmental entity. It is a record of every asset the entity has and is a necessity to apply for federal grants. Council approved the bid from Government Fixed Assets, Inc. and it will be completed by June.
