Whitley County Regional Water and Sewer District
Initial District Plan – Elimination Project for the Unincorporated Areas of Whitley County
The Whitley County Regional Water and Sewer District (District) of Whitley County, Indiana will hold a public hearing at 6:00 pm local time on July 13, 2020 in the basement of 220 W Van Buren Street, Room A/B Columbia City, IN 46725. The District’s engineering consultants (Jones Petrie Rafinski Corp)will present the findings of the District Plan for the septic elimination project. This project will eliminate aging septic systems and protect the private wells and waterways from untreated wastewater.
In general, the recommendation includes:
- A wastewater collection system for the following areas: Dunfee, County Line Road South, Coesse, Churubusco West and Churubusco South that will connect to existing collection systems with wastewater treatment provided by the following entities:
- Churubusco South and West- Town of Churubusco
- Dunfee and County Line South- Aqua Indiana
- Coesse- Columbia City
The funding for the project has not been secured but it is anticipated to be funded through the Wastewater State Revolving Fund as administered by the Indiana Finance Authority.
A copy of the Initial District Plan is available for public viewing starting June 19, 2020 through July 18, 2020 at the Whitley County Health Department, 220 W Van Buren St, Suite 111, Columbia City, IN 46725, during their normal business hours. There will an opportunity for questions and comments for the public at this meeting on July 13, 2020.
Written comments from the public will be accepted through July 18, 2020. Your participation is welcomed and encouraged. The District requests that all attendees present their input and opinions in a respectful manner and allow other participants to voice their opinions as well. Written comments regarding these projects should be sent to the Whitley County Regional Sewer and Water District, 220 W Van Buren Street, Columbia City, IN 46725and should be received by the District prior to July 18, 2020.
