Meeting Minutes –May 17, 2017
The Churubusco Town Council met on May 17, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Hall. Members present were President Mark Pepple, Council Members Bruce Johnson and Frank Kessler, and Clerk-Treasurer Madalyn Sade-Bartl. Also in attendance were area residents Nick Brandt, Pat Liggett, and Denise Geiger; Rachael Rosfeld, Post & Mail; Wastewater Superintendent, Bob Gray; and Town Marshal, Mike Engle; and Town Supervisor, Jeremy Hart.
President Mark Pepple called the meeting to order, welcomed visitors and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll was called by the Clerk. All members were present.
Approval of May 3, 2017 meeting minutes:
Mr. Johnson made a motion to approve the minutes from May 3, 2017 as presented. Mr. Kessler seconded and the motion carried 3-0.
Approval of Claims and Payroll Vouchers:
Claims Vouchers dated for May 17, 2017 in the amount of $114,719.23 were approved.
Public Comment:
Pat Liggett wished to file a complaint about trash and junk located on a property on W. Pleasant Street. Mr. Hart stated he would investigate and have Ms. Sade-Bartl send a letter to the owners if he found the property was in violation of the junk ordinance.
Mr. Johnson asked Ms. Geiger if she was still having issues with the marine company next to her house. She stated she felt no one cared there were still issues concerning the business and she’d have to live with it.
Old Business:
There was no old business.
New Business:
New Era 5k: Nick Brandt approached the Council on behalf of Churubusco New Era and presented plans for the annual New Era 5k (attached). He stated the route would be the same as previous years, but they were changing the date and time to Sunday, August 27 at 2 pm. The Council approved the route by consensus.
Department Reports:
Jeremy Hart, Town Supervisor:
Mr. Hart praised Bob Gray for the fixes he has made concerning infiltration. Hart stated those fixes have resulted in less overflows during rain events. Hart also reported the Park was running well and the Splash Pad was open.
Bob Gray, Waste Water Treatment Plant Supervisor
Mr. Gray stated he was shopping for samplers and found they ranged from $2800 to $5000. Other than that, he was trying to dry out from all the rain.
Michael Engle, Town Marshal:
Marshal Engle reported Officer Bachelder had filled out paperwork, ordered uniforms, and had been working with Officer Swinehart and Papenbrock on computer set up.
Rick Krider, Park Supervisor:
Mr. Krider was not present.
Ron Felger, Town Attorney:
Mr. Felger was not present.
Council Reports:
President Frank Kessler:
President Kessler stated he and Mr. Johnson had attended the Regional Sewer District meeting the previous night.
Bruce Johnson:
Mr. Johnson expanded upon the Regional Sewer District meeting
Mark Pepple:
Mr. Pepple had attended the EMA Advisory Board meeting.
Madalyn Sade-Bartl:
Ms. Sade-Bartl reported she would be attending the Community Crossings information meeting on the 30th. She also reported she would not be at the next meeting as she would be on vacation and Kari would be filling in.
Having no other business and after all proper papers were signed, President Pepple adjourned the regular meeting.
